What to expect this season

The Church hasn’t posted the 2026 theme or video yet (checked ). Here’s how last year went, so you know roughly when to look.

  • Mid-November: kickoffThe 2025 initiative kicked off in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

  • End of November: the videoThe 2025 video, “The First Christmas Story, Retold by Children,” came out Sunday, November 30, 2025.

  • The 2025 themeAdd the light of Jesus Christ to the Christmas traditions you already have. Elder Gary E. Stevenson put it this way: “His light was never meant to be admired from afar. It was meant to be shared.”

  • What the official site hadAn idea generator, a downloadable list, invitations you can customize, pass-along cards, phone wallpapers and videos.

  • For 2026If the Church follows last year, expect news in mid-November and a video near the end of the month. That’s our guess from last year, not an announcement. We’ll update this page when the official page changes.

Dad tip: don’t try to do all 25 days perfectly. Pick one idea a week, take a photo, and put it in your weekly email to your missionary. They love hearing that home is doing it too.

Alongside your missionary

Seven simple ways to share the season with your missionary, inside the mission rules. Serving somewhere cold? Here’s what winter on a mission is like.

In the weekly email

  1. 1
One “light” photo a weekSend a photo of the family’s service that week with one line about it. Short is easier to read on P-day.
  2. 2
Ask one easy questionFor example: “Who did you see serve someone this week?” One question is easier to answer than ten.
  3. 3
Share a verse you read togetherLuke 2 or another Christmas passage, plus a sentence on what it meant to your family.

On the Christmas call

  1. 4
Plan the call by emailMissionaries may contact family on special occasions such as Christmas, and they start the call. Agree on a time by email and have a short list ready. Holiday calls →
  2. 5
Share your favorite dayEach person picks one day from the 25-day list below and tells the story in a minute or two. Then let your missionary talk.

In a flat Christmas package or letter

  1. 6
Paper keepsakesPrinted photos, a handwritten note from each person, a child’s drawing, or this 25-day list with your family’s check marks.
  2. 7
Cards from homeChristmas cards from grandparents, ward members or friends, gathered into one envelope. Flat paper lasts and doesn’t spoil.

New to mailing overseas? Start with how to send letters and packages to a missionary. Before you mail: some missions ask families to use the mission office address for mail and packages (Missionary Standards 3.9.4). Check the mission’s own guidelines, your postal service’s rules and the 2026 mailing deadlines. Your missionary’s schedule comes first, so replies may be short.
