Where it is

The MTC sits in the Gustavo A. Madero borough, in what the Church describes as a busy area of Mexico City. By the Church’s estimate it is about 45 minutes from the Mexico City Mexico Temple and about 90 minutes from the area administration offices (official page). Its Spanish name is CCM (Centro de Capacitación Misional), and the Spanish version of the official page calls it the Centro de Capacitación Misional de México (página oficial).

The Church doesn’t post an arrival page, an airport guide or a drop-off map for this MTC that we could find. Travel to the MTC is set up through the Church’s missionary travel process, so watch for your itinerary and check our travel portal guide.

Who trains here

Church Newsroom lists the Mexico City MTC as serving Mexico and other countries of North, Central and South America, plus the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The training languages it lists are Spanish, Haitian Creole and K’ekchi (Church Newsroom). That Newsroom page still mentions 10 training centers in places, so treat its lists as possibly dated.

Your call letter is what tells you where to report. Some missionaries go to a different MTC or start at home. See which MTC you’ll go to.

How long missionaries stay

Across all MTCs, Church Newsroom says missionaries spend three to nine weeks in training, and up to three weeks if they aren’t learning a new language (Church Newsroom). When the current campus opened in 2013, Newsroom reported that missionaries learning Spanish there trained for six weeks and those who already spoke Spanish trained for two weeks (2013 Newsroom article). That was the 2013 schedule; your own dates are in your call packet. Many missionaries also begin with online training at home first: at-home MTC.

A short history

  • 1979: the Mexico MTC was established, and until 2013 it was located at the Mexico City Mexico Temple site (official page).
  • January 31, 2013: the Church announced it would close its Benemérito de las Américas high school at the end of that school year and reopen the campus as an MTC for missionaries serving in Mexico and other countries of North, Central and South America (Church Newsroom).
  • June 2013: the MTC moved from a smaller building near the Mexico City Temple, where around 125 missionaries trained at a time, to the 90-acre former school campus. Newsroom said the new site could take over 1,000 missionaries, nearly 10 times as many (Church Newsroom).
  • Today: the official page calls it the second largest MTC in the world, able to train up to 1,500 missionaries at a time (official page).

What’s on the campus

The official page describes a 90-acre campus with 53 homes, two large apartment buildings, 12 classroom and instruction buildings, an administration building, a gym and an auditorium. Missionaries also have a clinic, a cafeteria, an MTC store and computer labs. For exercise there are playing fields, outdoor courts for volleyball, tennis, pickleball and basketball, and an indoor gym with exercise equipment (official page).

The temple planned on the campus

The Mexico City Benemérito Mexico Temple, announced in April 2022, will be built on the same campus as the MTC (official page). On October 31, 2022, Church Newsroom gave its location as near the Mexico City Missionary Training Center at Tenayuca-Chalmita 828, with plans for a two-story temple of about 29,000 square feet that will be the city’s second temple (Church Newsroom). An exterior rendering was released on December 16, 2024 (Church Newsroom).

As of our November 2, 2026 review, we found no groundbreaking or dedication announcement for it on Church Newsroom, so it isn’t open yet. Check Newsroom for any update.

Arrival, visits and goodbyes

The Church hasn’t posted a public arrival, visitor or tour page for the Mexico City MTC. The official page lists only hours, the address and contact details. Follow the instructions in your call packet and anything the MTC sends your missionary. Don’t assume another MTC’s drop-off rules apply here. For general guidance, see can we visit our missionary?

Letters and packages

The official page gives the MTC’s street address, but we didn’t find an official Church page with a mailing format for letters or packages sent to missionaries at the Mexico City MTC. Ask your missionary for the exact name and format to use, and use email first. Our letters and packages guide covers the basics.
