CTM, Brazil MTC or São Paulo MTC?

All three names point to the same building. In Portuguese the Church calls it the Centro de Treinamento Missionário do Brasil, shortened to CTM do Brasil (página oficial). The English page uses Brazil Missionary Training Center, and Church Newsroom files it under São Paulo, Brazil. When you search for directions or news, try all three.

Where it is

The CTM is in Casa Verde, which the official page describes as a busy area of suburban São Paulo. The Church puts it about 45 minutes from the airport and about 45 minutes from both the São Paulo Brazil Temple and the Brazil Area offices (official page).

The page doesn’t say which airport it means, and we haven’t found an official arrival guide for this MTC. Don’t book transfers or pick a meeting point on your own. Missionary flights come through the Church’s travel process, so watch for the itinerary and read our travel portal guide.

Who trains here

Per Church Newsroom, São Paulo trains missionaries headed to Brazil, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Angola, the South America South Area, Central America, Mexico, Japan and Portugal. The training languages listed are Portuguese, Spanish and Japanese (Church Newsroom).

Newsroom’s list is older than the Church’s current count of 11 MTCs (one line still says 10 locations), so read it as a guide rather than a promise. Your call letter names your MTC. If your call says Provo, see Provo MTC drop-off. Every mission in the country is on our Brazil page.

How long missionaries stay

Newsroom gives one range for all MTCs: three to nine weeks, with missionaries who aren’t learning a new language staying three weeks at most (Church Newsroom). It doesn’t break that down for São Paulo or by language, so the report and departure dates in your call packet are the ones to plan around. The Church’s MTC hub adds that missionaries receive more details about their own MTC after they get their assignment (MTC hub).

A short history

  • November 1977: the Brazil MTC was established (official page).
  • 1997: it moved to a new location, the building at the Casa Verde address above (official page).
  • Today: the Portuguese page says it is, so far, the largest building the Church has built outside the United States (página oficial).

Inside the building

The official page lists residence rooms, classrooms, a kitchen, a cafeteria, laundry, a gymnasium, chapels and staff offices in the one building. For exercise there’s a large outdoor court for basketball and volleyball, an outdoor walking path, a large covered court and an exercise room with stationary equipment. The CTM can train up to 450 missionaries at a time (official page).

Who leads it

On September 11, 2026, Church Newsroom announced new presidents for all 11 MTCs, starting in January 2027. For Brazil, Fotios and Virginia Mavromatis will succeed President Milton Camargo and Sister Patricia Camargo. The Mavromatises previously led the Boston Massachusetts Mission. Brother Mavromatis was born in Recife and Sister Mavromatis in Capivari, both in Brazil, and they belong to a Portuguese-speaking branch in Tampa, Florida (Church Newsroom, September 11, 2026).

Arrival, visits and mail

We couldn’t find an official public page on arrival times, drop-offs, visitors or a mailing format for the CTM. The official page gives only hours, the address and contact details, and the Brazil MTC website didn’t load when we checked on November 3, 2026. Until your missionary’s instructions arrive, don’t assume another MTC’s rules apply here.

For mail, ask your missionary for the exact name and format to use, and lean on email first. Our letters and packages guide and can we visit our missionary? cover the general rules.
