Temple Square Sister missionaries in 2026

The Temple Square Mission has closed. Sisters still serve at Temple Square, but they belong to nearby Utah missions.

What’s changing

  • The Utah Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission was discontinued in summer 2026, after the transition the Church planned for July.
  • Sisters are assigned to surrounding Utah missions and split their time between a regular teaching area and Temple Square.
  • The Temple Square assignment is still made by a member of the Quorum of the Twelve.
  • A limited number of returned missionaries will be hired as part-time guides.

A little history

Volunteers began serving at Temple Square in 1922. Full-time missionaries, mostly senior couples, started helping with tours in the 1980s, and the mission itself was formed in 1995. The Salt Lake Temple renovation is due to finish in 2027.
